Elevator Pitch

What makes an elevator pitch an elevator pitch is being able to provide a hook for an idea you are trying to sell. This is the ability to condense one whole big idea into a pitch that is less than a minute long. The first video was good because it gave me a sense of what an elevator pitch is but it wasn't as realistic because it's from a movie and it didn't seems as serious. the second video was also good, however, from my perspective his pitch didn't have a hook. The last video was my favorite because it was an actual pitch competition. Not only did he start off by providing a hook but he also provided information on how much money it would cost and how long it would take to develop.

A discipline that I am interested in is Psychology. A professor here at Abington who studies in this field is Michael J. Bernstein . Bernstein published an article a couple years ago on the relation of past perspectives on present relationships. He has a also published several articles on social interaction and exclusion. This is very interesting to me because I have always been interested in the effect of people’s experiences on their daily lives. It is exciting to know that people actually study things that may seem miniscule or insignificant but are actually important in humans lives. Some questions I have are: What effect does rejection have on relationships? What type(s) of rejection exists? Can these all affect how we pursue relationships? What kind of experiences influence relationships? How are social interaction and exclusion related? Is this the same as rejection? The keywords I used are: relationships, social interaction, exclusion, rejection and past experiences....

PB1A- Coupons

One textual genre that most people, if not everyone, are familiar with, is coupons. Coupons attract any type of person but mainly people who are looking to save money; however, there may be some people who just happen to stumble across their Sunday paper or store ad before a shopping trip and score some discounts for things already on their list. As stated before, a coupons main purpose is to save people money, but they are also a good advertising tool. People may decide to try a different brand of a product because it is on sale and if they like that product better odds are they will continue to buy it. However, there are some people who buy products for the sole reason that they are on sale. The context of a coupon is that it is presented at checkout for a specific item and it must be deducted from the customer’s bill. PB1B- Genre Generators

Genres are everywhere, you can find a genre in everything. Having a computer or phone allows people to have access to genres and information on genres at the touch of their fingertips. There are many websites that create genres and often times conventions are attached to them which allows viewers to clearly identify what they are looking for. One genre generator website, SCIgen, is specifically designed to generate computer science research papers and even includes useful tools such as graphs and figures. Each paper begins with an introduction and includes related work, principles, implementation, evaluation, conclusion, and a full list of references. Whenever the generate button is pressed on the website, a different topic comes up. For example, some papers that were generated are, “Refining Hierarchical Databases Using Real-Time Communication”, “E-Business Considered Harmful”, and “Enabling IPv4 and Neural Networks Using Tical”.
